Linchpin by Seth Godin

I can’t wait to dig back into this one! Seth Godin is far and away my favorite writer/thinker/leader when it comes to this sort of thing. Most of his books prior to this one were about marketing, business, companies, etc. With Linchpin, Seth gets personal. This one is written directly to individuals and the insights inside apply to each and every one of us. Our roles in our families, our friend groups, our companies, our relationship with ourselves, you name it.
If Seth Godin didn’t exist, we’d need to invent him – that’s how indispensable he is! You hold in your hands a compelling, accessible, and purpose-filled book. Read it, and do yourself a big favor.
Your future will thank you!
-Alan Webber, Founder, Fast Company

The One Thing by Gary Keller & Jay Papasan (Bard Press, 2013)

The votes are in! Our first book will be The One Thing by Gary Keller and Jay Papason.
Keller is the founder and CEO of Keller Williams Real Estate. Keller Williams is one of the largest real estate agencies in the world, and this book is a super easy read on the topic of personal leadership and reaching your full potential. This is the book I am currently going through and it’s fantastic.
The reading schedule is listed below. Feel free to go faster if you like, this is simply a guide and will help everyone know what topics will be discussed each Tuesday night. We originally talked about a pace of 10 pages per day. A few are 10 or less, but more are a few more. This schedule averages just over 12 pages per day and has us reading only on Monday thru Friday. If we discover it is too fast or too slow, we will adjust accordingly.

The Four Disciplines of Execution by Chris McChesney, Sean Covey, Jim Huling (Simon & Schuster, 2014)
4DX should be required reading for all members of any team wanting to transform the effectiveness of their efforts. If your team wants to move from adequate or even good, to great, outstanding, or game-changing… this is a book you don’t want to miss.
We are all guilty of getting caught up in the “whirlwind” of our daily fires and the week-in, week-out grind of tasks and to-do items that don’t really “move the meter” in terms of accomplishing all that we might otherwise be able to accomplish. 4DX will give you a formula or framework for making such moves.
Deep Work by Cal Newport (Grand Central Publishing)
Found Cal Newport while looking for resources for my college-age kids. Cal has a great site called Study Hacks. It was just what the Dr. ordered and even more. I purchased two of his books for my daughter, but then I found something for myself! Deep Work is fascinating. We’ve all been “In the Zone” before when it comes to our professional endeavors. Trouble is, those times “In the Zone” are often difficult to predict and even more difficult to re-create.
Deep Work will help make that happen. At the very least, it will get your wheels turning about how you strive to make it happen more often.
It’s hard to say too many good things about this little book. It will take you about two hours to read it all the way through, and you’ll spend the rest of your life uncovering and re-discovering the truth it contains.
An abundance mentality is truly the best way to approach every aspect of our lives. The Go-Giver is presented as a business book, but it has application across all facets of life: business, faith, family, relationships, marriage, you name it!
